This resource is a tool to help children not only understand the story of Rosy and Ryan and their first day at school, but also relate to their feelings and prepare themselves for their journey into school life.
This story focuses around twins Rosy and Ryan as they prepare for their first day of school. Their mother, Janet, provides them with five helpful tips to ensure they enjoy their first day and make the most out of their school experience.
Activities associated with the story:
Circle or Colour the Faces: Children are presented with a series of faces displaying different emotions. They are asked to circle or colour the faces that represent how they feel about starting school, encouraging them to express their emotions and fostering emotional literacy.
Write 3 Tips: Based on the story, children are asked to write down three tips they would give to a new child to help them settle into school. This task encourages reflection, understanding, and empathy towards others.
Draw Rosy and Ryan: Children are encouraged to draw their interpretations of Rosy and Ryan on their first day of school. This fosters creativity and allows children to visualize and connect with the story’s characters.
Comprehension Questions: A list of simple questions about the story is provided to assess and enhance the children’s comprehension skills. This promotes critical thinking, understanding, and engagement with the story.
This resource is designed for teachers and parents alike to guide young children into understanding and preparing for the school environment.
